The Brief
Supabets is one of South Africa's largest licensed sports betting operators, holding a National Gambling Board licence and serving millions of registered users across web and mobile platforms.
I contributed to the digital infrastructure of the Supabets platform, working on performance, user experience, and the technical systems that support a high-volume transactional environment.
This engagement required working within the specific regulatory and compliance environment of the South African gambling sector, with particular attention to responsible gambling requirements and data handling standards.
The Approach
How I approached this engagement.
High-Volume Architecture
Sports betting platforms handle enormous concurrent traffic spikes around major events. I worked on the infrastructure patterns that absorb these spikes without degraded user experience.
Regulatory Compliance
South African gambling regulations impose specific requirements on digital platforms. I ensured all work met NGB compliance requirements, including responsible gambling features.
Performance Optimisation
Odds update in real-time. I worked on the frontend performance patterns that allow live odds to update without full page refreshes, maintaining sub-100ms interaction times.
Mobile Experience
The majority of South African sports betting activity happens on mobile. I contributed to mobile-first patterns across the key betting flows.
